DISCOVERY WORD FOR TODAY. 06-02-2021

GOD’S CORRECTION

“But consider the joy of those corrected by God! Do not despise the discipline of the Almighty when you sin. For though he wounds, he also bandages. He strikes, but his hands also heal. From six disasters he will rescue you; even in the seventh, he will keep you from evil. He will save you from death in time of famine, from the power of the sword in time of war. You will be safe from slander and have no fear when destruction comes. You will laugh at destruction and famine; wild animals will not terrify you. You will be at peace with the stones of the field, and its wild animals will be at peace with you. You will know that your home is safe. When you survey your possessions, nothing will be missing. You will have many children; your descendants will be as plentiful as grass! You will go to the grave at a ripe old age, like a sheaf of grain harvested at the proper time!
Job 5:17‭-‬26 NLT

I have discovered over the years that our concept of God most times is shaped by what we have heard about Him. Many people do not take time to study about God personally and so conclude that God is likened to their earthly father and what they had experienced from him. If the experience from their earthly father is a good one, this may be of advantage but if it is the other way round, our definition of God’s personality may be distorted.

In our scripture read this morning, Job’s friend, Eliphaz, tried to explain to Job about God’s kind of discipline. He explained that even though God loves to correct us and get us on track always, he doesn’t want to destroy us. Many people go through terrible times and conclude that it must be God punishing them for their sins. Eliphaz says it’s good to endure God’s correction when he does and as he would often do because he loves you, but you must also know that his correction is still to make you better and make you whole.

I have had God correct me through the Holy Spirit several times and He does it to make me a better person. He could restrict you from certain things you might refer to as privileges but it’s usually for your own good. However, he still intends for you to live a fulfilled life. One of the things Eliphaz said here was that God will still make you go to the grave at a ripe full old age. That is saying that God will give you long life even after correcting you.

I pray that we would understand the kind of God we serve and enjoy all his privileges from today in our lives in Jesus name. Please go through the Bible reading again and see the many blessings that God has for you and i. May you enjoy them in Jesus name.
