A DIFFERENT KIND OF PRAYER

Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles: Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot; Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot who also became a traitor.

There is no argument about the fact that it is important to pray. Either you pray at home, at work, with your family or even in church, the most important thing is to pray. However, there are times when you need to adopt a different approach to your prayer depending on what you aim to achieve with the prayers.

In our scripture today, we find Jesus going to the mountain to pray and not just for a few minutes or hours but the Bible says he prayed all night. When you read further into that chapter, you would understand why Jesus needed to pray all night. The Bible says that after the prayers, he chose his twelve disciples. Choosing his disciples was an event that would determine the face of Christianity till today and that is why Jesus needed to pray all night before taking up that activity.

When an issue is destiny related, you don’t pray the normal kind of prayers. Issues like marriage, career and some other sensitive issues in your life requires these kind of prayers that Jesus also got involved with. It is wisdom to spend an entire night praying over something that you would need to live with for over fifty years. Some people still say they do not know what career to go into while others are confused about their health. These issues are not issues you solve with casual prayers. You need a few hours of prayers to address issues like this.

Even though Jesus prayed all night to choose his disciples, he still chose a Judas. Imagine if he had not prayed at all, he would probably have chosen four of his kind.

I encourage you to take up prayers like this even if it is once in a year to get yourself set for what is ahead of you. The purpose of these prayers is to make the right decisions in life as you know that decision determines destiny. Whatever decision you make today may determine the rest of your years in this life. I pray you receive the strength to pray special prayers like this in Jesus name.
